Emmy Red Carpet Review 2011

Tuesday, September 20, 2011

This year’s Emmy’s showcased a host of effortless elegant and sophisticated looks. It was great to see floor length gowns in bold reds, striking blacks, sparkling metallic’s and lovely nudes. We all love a red carpet so here is my review of six outfits. Who did well and who could've done better!

There is not really much Heidi Klum can’t wear so I’m impressed with her fun yet elegant choice in this strapless gown. Hair up showcases her gorgeous décolletage with statement earrings and a bold ring. The two-tone effect draws attention to her tiny waist and the full skirt and simple shoes team well together to bring some frivolity to the red carpet.

Jane Lynch – a woman who gets better with age is working the strapless look well. This deep hue might be a little dark for her features but the style of the dress is lovely for her. I would have liked to see a necklace/pendant to highlight her décolletage as it looks a little bare. Her make-up is clean and enhances her clear complexion and the cuff and earrings are very on-trend.

There was no stopping the sexy Sofia Vergara in bright coral. This gorgeous gown complimented her beautiful complexion and dark hair highlighting her hourglass curves in all the right places. The full gown at the bottom balances out the fitting structure of the dress and the fabric gathered over the top and hips is truly flattering.

Although she looks comfortable and relaxed, this is a very safe choice from Katie Holmes, which I think is missing the “glam” factor. The red carpet is one of the only opportunities where you have the licence to overdress and this dress is really just too simple. A sophisticated hair up-do, some bold accessories and statement heels could have saved this outfit but I wish Katie had made more of an effort. The blue works well with her complexion and she has the ideal figure and height to pull off a floor-length gown. I think this is more wedding/cocktail party than red-carpet worthy.

Well hasn’t Kelly Osborne turned her style around? She looks divine in this stunning deep burgundy gown. Her hair is a little white for me, I would like to see it toned down a bit but her make-up is flawless. The asymmetrical straps in the top of the dress and the dropdown earrings draw attention “up” accentuating her neckline and she looks very confident wearing it, which is key to any outfit.

There is always one black gown and Christine Baranski nailed this look. It is simple yet effortlessly striking. The capped sleeves and v-neck flatter this structured dress and it is teamed well with statement earrings and the contrasting clutch. Christine has achieved a very sophisticated and feminine look.
